Rigging Gallery
As part of my training at Gnomon, I rigged several models in Maya and gained an understanding of how the process works. In my professional career, I have rigged models for clients on multiple occasions, though I prefer animation and technical animation over this process.
Below are a few rigs I have created during my career for various purposes.
The Bees Knees -
Global Game Jam 2024
This anthropomorphic bee rig was made for Global Game Jam 2024. Our concept was a bee comedy club, where the bee is telling jokes by dancing, as bees communicate through dance in real life. Normally I would take much more time to make a rig, but due to the time constraints of the contest (5 days), I only had a single evening to actually work on this.
Given these constraints, the character is quite simplistic, with no real face, and clearly intersecting geometry, but is very appealing all the same. However, care had to be taken with weight painting to ensure the character could perform dance movies without unsightly deformation.
I was quite pleased with the final result, which I also did the animation for. While I wish I had had time to add a few more varied dance animations, I found the rig to be quite adequate for what we needed to accomplish, and I am proud of the result with such a quick turnaround.
Snapping TurTle Rig
This snapping turtle is a rig I created for my final portfolio at Gnomon, using a model provided by a friend also working on their final portfolio. I also animated the resulting rig, and our collaboration earned us a Best of Term award. You can see the video on the left side of the screen. Some people have mistaken it for the animation reference!
You can see a more detailed breakdown video of the rig in the second video, showing how all of the controls work individually.
