Revolver Project
March 2024
For this project, I wanted to practice doing First person animation since I have no previous experience with it. Since I wanted it to be a smaller project, but still be a primarily animation focused one, I decided to just do a single weapon, but do a revolver, which can have many different reload animations. As I went through the project, I came across several interesting technical difficulties that I had to overcome, which I will detail below.

Once I started adding animations to Unreal, I quickly realized that this project would be slightly more complicated that I thought. A revolver is an interesting conundrum in that all of its parts are exposed to the viewer, meaning that its much more difficult to hide its inner workings and pretend that it is working as intended. Due to this, I ended up having to not only create the montages for the animation reloads, but also set up blend offsets for the bullets, rotating cylinder, and ensure that these lined up with the animations so that each part of the puzzle would animate correctly in tandem with each other.

You can see examples of some of my blueprints below. This is a fairly basic setup, and I want to revisit this project later when I have a bit more knowledge when I have better solutions to some of these animation questions.
